Roflcakes: Honestly, this is the only role he deserves unless he can somehow grow a personality and some good villain motivations.

Tansarii: @Roflcakes: I believe Celestia says something to the jest of "The Crystal Empire is the greatest source of magic in Equestria", Sombra is a UNICORN, Sombra calls the Crystal Ponies his slaves. Please tell me how gaining slaves and controlling the worlds greatest source of magic ISNT a motive.

Roflcakes: @Tansarii: It's a shallow motive at best. Why is he doing it? Is he just an evil jerk for the sake of it or is there some deeper reason he decided to enslave an entire population and install himself as the ruler? If there is, the writers conveniently left that part of the story out.

Characterization like that is as generic as it gets.

Biggus__Dickus: @Roflcakes: It's called being power-hungry.

Roflcakes: @Biggus Dickus: And? I never disputed that. He's a selfish, power hungry asshole and that's exactly why I think he sucks as a villain. I like antagonists with more depth than "Hey, I'm a huge jerk! Time to fuck shit up and take slaves for the sake of it!"

Nightweaver20xx: Some ponies just want to watch the world burn.

Also, he's so ADORABLE, I love him! <3

Faptacular: @Roflcakes: I'm with you. Hand/hoof-wringing asshole is just trolling the world on a massive scale.

Anytime a "villain" like this shows up I just want the hero to do a break-the-forth-wall look into the camera and then literally bitch-slap the guy into submission.

bAv-R34: @Faptacular: And they did, with a magical love splooge blast that killed him.
So far, I think Sombra and the Windigos were the only things that actually died in the show.

Yet again, there's that amulet that Trixie has, which means he might be controlling her.

Roflcakes: @bAv-R34: Yeah, it was a very open ended "death" which actually gives me hope they'll flesh out his character some more.

Tansarii: @Roflcakes: If you pay attention to the end, his horn is specifically drawn out to be "still intact" as we know he can spread darkness though his horn. While he MAY be forever dead, his horn will most likely be outputting darkness until they find it... which again, if he is dead and doesnt make a return, thats what his horn will do.

Roflcakes: @Tansarii: Indeed. I did watch the episode too, y'know.

Tansarii: @Roflcakes: Watching a show and actually paying attention are different things. Most people who claim he didn't have a motive can't connect simple dots and didn't pay attention to the important details.

Roflcakes: @Tansarii: How about you read my first post again and tell me where I said he didn't have a motive. Also, it wouldn't hurt to stop assuming I didn't pay attention to the episodes just because I disagree with you.

Anonymous4: It's hard to empathize without understanding why someone /wants/ to watch the world burn. Even if it's just for shits and giggles, that wasn't made clear, and wanting power for power's sake isn't the same as wanting to watch the world burn. He could have both motivations, but neither was clarified in the show. It's not connecting the dots when the viewer has to add their own dots to get any sort of recognizable picture. We know what he wanted, but not why, and the why is the problem.

So don't try to make it sound like he's well-developed when he isn't. I like Sombra, but I'm a fucking realist. I can recognize when someone failed to create a pastiche of Sauron.

Even if we're not comparing those two characters, Sombra has fewer speaking lines than some of the background ponies. He is the least developed FiM villain. I'm not saying he's the worst, but the writers wasted his potential with poor planning and a lack of understanding for how that style of villain should be handled.

Also, the only good thing about this picture is the hair and the humiliation.
