Anonymous3(2): All xenomorph are female gender. But only queen lays eggs, also any xeno can morph into queen, but there are only one or few mother queens...
Zaxares: According to a rulebook I read once for an Aliens RPG, once a hive is well-established, the Queen will lay an egg with a Queen facehugger within it, then have it implanted into a host. When the new Queen hatches, the old Queen takes a handful of drones and her Praetorian guards with her and leaves to set up a new nest elsewhere, leaving the old nest and a large number of drones to guard the new Queen until she matures.
In this way, a mature Queen (who is much more powerful and able to fend for herself more than a newborn Queen) can quickly spread multiple nests over a large area in a matter of weeks.
