Anonymous1: Before the obligatory agruing ensues:
So the straight laced, heterosexual gamers out there have roughly 17,000 hot, kick ass 'genetic' females to ogle. Could we just give this one to the transexuals? Capcom is going to hold a vote to let the fans decide her gender. Do the right thing and show your support for the TG community.
"Originally conceived as a female thug in Final Fight and part of the game's antagonist group, Mad Gear, concerns about reactions from North American audiences to fighting women resulted in the character being changed to a newhalf."
I consider her fully female since she was meant to be so, even though she/he's officially otherwise. Other games such as Double Dragon, for example, had female enemies you fought against, and I never heard of any controversy regarding this (though that doesn't mean there wasn't). So I wanna know why Capcom allowed this to affect their character.
Anonymous3: At the risk of sounding like a samefag, I have to agree with Anon 1. While I, personally prefer Poison as a female, I think it's time to wake up. It's the 21st century and people need to be more open minded. What better character to make a transexeual than one who is already (mostly) generally accepted as such.
Anonymous7(1): Anon1 here. I'm glad to see that most of the discussion so far has been kept civil. Anon4 and Anon6 apparently cannot comprehend that everybody has different tastes and have to resort to being vulgar, insensitive, and insulting. Anon5, it turns out we received some bad info. Seth Killian, a community manager at Capcom Tweeted that there would be a vote. Wes Phillips from Capcoms PR department has since denied this via his own Tweet, saying that, "It was an off-hand remark."
More to follow.
PoisonUpstart: Anon1 once more. Unfortunately, Capcom's website isn't exactly user friendly. Trying to find a decent contact there is nigh impossible. But if you can find a reliable email there, I encourage those that would like to see Pre-op Transexual Poison to overwhelm their website with proper requests. Also, if you do find a reliable email, please share it with the rest of us. I'll continue to do my part. Let's make Poison go down in history as the first true Transexual video game character!!!
Anonymous8: Hey anon 1/PoisonUpstart: Capcom wasn't serious about the vote for Poison's gender. It's OFFICIALLY "whatever you want it to be." Yes, officially, as in a Capcom employee said this a few days after they joked about the vote.
Anonymous9: I am going to echo a comment above. She started out as a she, so she should be a she.
You want to create a character from scratch as transgendered? Fine. But don't change an existing one simply because it would be a statement for transgendered people.
Anonymous10(9): The difference there is he was written as a woman in the ORIGINAL draft script, he never made it to film as a she.
Whereas this character DID. She was a she in the Japanese release of the game.
Hell, in the original draft of Star Wars, everyone had Lightsabers, even Storm Troopers. It wasn't until later that he decided to make them Jedi and Sith-only weapons. Do you see Storm Troopers, and go "Where're their Lightsabers?"
Zoicite in the original Sailor Moon was a man, he was gay. When they brought the cartoon to America, they knew the censors wouldn't let this pass so they changed him to a her, and altered the look of the character to appear as a small-breasted woman. So depending on which version you saw, he was either a he, or a she, but not transgendered.
So you want to change the character's sex, then do it but don't try to pull the "transgendered" thing, considering it only weakens your position of making the character a poster character when the change was only made to suit a different audience.
P_Marsh: I'm hoping to dear god that Capcom has deliberately left this ambiguous simply for the point of letting strangers on the internet rage pointlessly in some sort of meta-trolling.
Anonymous11(1): Sorry all you close-minded, prudish, homophobic jag-offs! Straight from Poison's Character page on streetfighter(dot)com:
"She may look like a finely curved woman, but looks can be deceiving!"
You can play whatever mind games you want to try and make that mean something else, but the simple fact of the matter is that Poison is a Tranny!
Anonymous12: About that vote; I hope the original femme Poison wins, as that's how I remember the character when I was a kid in the eighties. I wouldn't be upset with a Poison that just has a larger than average clitty though. It would add to her 'unusualness'.
Anonymous13: I agree that Poison should definitely remain a TS. If you homophobes want to complain there's plenty of pics of actual female characters that cocks drawn on them that shouldn't but leave Poison alone.
Anonymous15(1): I smell stupidity and ignorance. Oh! It's just Anon14. Grow up, moron. Liking transexuals does not make you gay. Find me one single porn site that groups trannies and shemales in with the gay category!
arbeitseinheit: nag nag nag u fucking straight vs. gay unattractive and unsuccessful Africans fucking assbitch fishdicks suck my fuck u fucking suck assniggerdickshitfemalemalebastardsonawa fucking BABABOOEY TO Y'ALL and a merry christmas mother fuckees BITCH
Anonymous18: Anon 17, your comment is lacking in logic, reasoning, and common sense. I enjoy watching tyranny porn, but can't stand the thought of two guys having sex. Please put some bit of thought into your statements next time before posting them. Thank you.
Anonymous24: What? ..... umm the original art work for posion had the term newhalf written along the bottom... this was before the game was ever made. meaning poison was always meant to be a New half/Tran sexual

"Poison grew up in an orphanage in Los Angeles. Somehow he wound up in
Metro City and became a member of the Mad Gear gang. He lives with his cat
in a large apartment facing the back streets of Metro City.
Poison is a "newhalf", meaning a transsexual or transvestite. Poison
is a GUY. A guy with breasts, but a guy. This is official. This has been
official EVER SINCE FINAL FIGHT ONE EXISTED. However, most overseas players
wouldn't know this at all, due to lack of storyline publications in the US
and the fact that Poison didn't even EXIST in Final Fight One for the overseas
console versions. Capcom USA thought that Poison was a girl, so when
Final Fight 1 came to the US, they changed Poison and 'his' pallet swap,
Roxy, into generic male punks, Billy and Sid, because censorship was high
back then and they feared people wouldn't like the idea of hitting girls.
Poison MIGHT have gotten a sex change overseas and is now a girl and not
a guy. Streetwise was the latest attempt to get the sex change official and
into the books once and for all. Alas, Poison didn't make the cut.
UPDATE: Hey, finally, confirmation of Poison as a guy in English!
Unlock 'her' bio in Final Fight in Capcom Classics Collection.
"Poison grew up in a Los Angeles orphanage. Even though Poison is a guy
he chooses to wear women's clothing. He, err, she even feels that fighting
is the best way to stay in shape and maintain her looks."
So there's no denying Poison is a man once the masses get their hands on
this. Roxy however:
"Roxy grew up in the same LA orphanage as Poison. She always looked up to
Poison although she doesn't really dig the cross-dressing thing."
So Roxy might not be male anymore overseas, so the masses can drool over her
instead. Of note though is I was told that old sources listed Roxy as a male
as well. Perhaps this was changed later on? Supposedly these bios did come
from CoJ's archives though, or Digital Eclipse assumed Roxy was female despite
old design sheet scans within CCC indicating they're both newhalfs."
