She fell in love with Kato because he was kind to her and was the only person in that room who didn't treat her like less than an object or even less than a peace of meat. In the end she died to protect the kind man she fell in love with and he reciprocated. Kishimoto's appeal is much like the appeal of Tae chan in that she is a more normal girl and sweet. She may not be some super popular idol Her appeal or an ero mangaka or a martial artist milf but she is a sweet and vulnerable even lovable girl. Her appeal is doubled by being the first truly tragic death in the series ( even if you didn't care you were supposed to. ) She was the first character we were supposed to care about that we saw die. She was the first girl in the story and for a few arcs she was basically the third main character , her death had a massive impact on both Kurono and Kato so much so that she even returned a bit along with Sei , Reika and the old fart Suzuki in the final arc just for the " god aliens " to tease Kato and Kurono and to reveal that in the next life she and Reika would be reincarnated. .
I would rebuttal with " what's so great about Reika? " What did she do that Kishimoto didn't do before her? Not to mention if they all just went in together the chances would be doubled. In the Gantz Ps2 game there are a number of scenarios in which Kishimoto and Sei survive.
I do not hate ANY of the Gantz girls in fact I love all of them but Kishimoto will forever be top to me and many many of us and when fans of less realistic and more shoehorned in or forced characters try to talk shit they need to get slapped down by logic and facts that Kishimoto was the first girl , was female lead for a while and was the first truly important character death.
