Anonymous4: Mina is acid. Kirishima is rock. Acid corrodes rock. That means acid destroys rocks to the point of non-existence. So, this ship is a big NOTP for me personally. It might seem as though Mina is able to handle Kirishima's quirk, but it's definitely not the same case vice versa - at least, not in the long term. Also, to me personally, these two don't seem like they would actually understand each other down to the core of each other's soul. I mean, (my opinion again) just because both of them have friendly and sociable personalities doesn't mean that they were instantly meant to be together. Friendly and sociable is only just WHAT they are, not WHO they are deep down. It's like water and oil, both of them are solvents, so you would think they would instantly mix because of WHAT they are. But, because of their inner properties and metaphorically WHO they are deep down, they do not mix naturally - they only coexist. So i think Mina and Kirishima were only meant to coexist and never mix personally.
But if you guys still ship them, THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE!
PLEASE ALWAYS SHIP WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY AND NEVER LET OTHERS TELL YOU OTHERWISE
I just wanted to be able to articulate why i personally could >never< ship them...
Anyhow, THIS ART STYLE IS AMAZING. Kudos to the illustrator :)
Anonymous5(4): @Anonymous:
I understand. But a few friends i had who shipped KiriMina kept persisting me to join the KiriMina ship bandwagon because of how Mina's acid would help Kirishima with his "quirk endurance training" OR just because both of them are friendly and sociable, which are reasons that do not resonate with me personally.
Also, they kept telling me that KiriMina was meant to be just becuase they went to the same middle school as each other. But honestly, to me personally, shipping two people together just because they came from the same middle school as each other is like shipping two random people together just because they came from the same country or cultural background or something akin to that in my personal opinion. This reason is also one that does not resonate with me personally as i felt it lacked depth in meaning personally.
But when i told my friends who shipped KiriMina this, all of them except one decided to shun me as their friend and it really hurt when that happened, especially when the thing that they decided to shun me over with is nothing but a fictional ship consisting of actually inanimate characters that do not exist in the real world.
Of course i know that my ex-friends' perceptions does not encase the feelings and perceptions of ALL KiriMina shippers (i'm certain most of you are genuinely nice, caring and accepting people), but i just couldn't help but feel the need to express myself regarding the topic of this particular ship somewhere. I know, i sound like a major cry-baby - but i just felt a really strong desire to express myself here for some reason...
I am sorry if i caused any inconvenience or harm to anyone's feelings from what i said. I honestly did not mean any harm by it. If i did cause any harm to anyone i am REALLY sorry and if there was any way i could delete my first comment, i would.
Anonymous6(4): @Anonymous:
Thank you for being so understanding! I personally prefer the two of them to permanently remain as mere platonic acquaintances - or - if it's absolutely necessary for them to be closer - a kind of brother/sister dynamic at most. I don't really understand why, but i just strongly don't like the idea of these two specific characters getting together romantically for some reason.
Hence, it will always remain my personal no.1 NOTP even if the canonverse starts making them become closer and get together ultimately (i'll just head-canonize that something else happened in my world of imagination and that the two of them ended up romantically with someone else instead XD).
However, even if they happen to be my own permanent NOTP, i strongly hope that those who do ship this continues to do so if this ship genuinely makes them happy :)
JustSomeRandomGuy: @Anonymous: I just wanted to say something regarding your first comment: It has never been stated ever in the series that Mina's body is acidic, or that all of her bodily fluids are acidic. If that was the case, that would mean that she's doomed to never have a romantic partner. Considering that fluids like her spit or tears don't melt things, and that Mina herself states in the second MHA videogame that her blood is just normal blood, the acid that she secretes seems to be a completely separate substance from the rest of her bodyly fluids, and it's not her sweat, like how many people wrongly believe. I don't understand how the majority of the fanbase ended up settling on the same headcanon that "lol, Mina can't have sex because she would melt your dick". Like, from where did they get that idea? Anyway, that's all I wanted to say regarding that
Other than that,I also wanted to say that I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with your friends who ship KiriMina. No one should shun others just because they don't like the same ship as them. I ship KiriMina, but someone not liking the ship doesn't bother me, no one is forced to like the same things as me, and besides, them not liking the ship doesn't stop me from enjoying it (unless they're actively criticising me for it, that is).
Like, I think it's completely okay for you to not ship Kirishima and Mina, you don't see them as more than friends and that's totally fine. For example, in the same way in which you can't see Kirishima and Mina being more than friends, I feel the same way about Bakugo and Kirishima, I can't ship them together because I see them as only a BROTP (and also because Bakugo doesn't strike me as the type to fall in love and start a relationship). Another NOTP for me is Mina and Sero, which I don't like because I feel like people only ship them together because they want everyone in the so called "Bakusquad" to be with somone, so they put Bakugo with Kirishima, Kaminari with Jiro, and then with Mina and Sero they just get lazy and, since they don't see any other established ships for them, they decide to kill two birds with one stone and just put them together, effectively "giving Mina the leftovers" (no offense to any Sero fans out there, but I just think that Mina deserves someone much better than Sero). Like, it's worse than Kirimina, because while Kirishima and Mina only have very little in terms of interactions or connection, Sero and Mina have NOTHING, they literally have nothing, they never even interact with one another.
I kinda went off on a tangent at the end there. Anyway, that's all I wanted to say.
I was intrigued by you saying that even if they ended up together in canon you still wouldn't ship them. Do your previous negative experience with the ship and your friends have something to do with it? Or you kinda already felt that way about it?
Anonymous8(4): @JustSomeRandomGuy:
Honestly, it's only just because i ultimately don't really like the dynamic of Kirishima and Mina being together in a romantic relationship. I mean, my reasons are also kinda influenced by my own personal school experiences too (not including my ex-friends' story).
You see, me and a female friend of mine went to the same primary school when we were kids. We were not best friends, just platonic classmates. However, when we finally started Middle School, she and i were the only ones from the same primary school to attend the same middle school together. Hence, when we started middle school, we didn't know anyone except each other. So, we started to hang out together because we only knew each other at that point in time.
However, we almost immediately started hanging out with different people and made different friends in middle school and kind of never interacted ever since (also, she left the school in the 2nd year of Middle School). So, i just don't like the idea of Kirishima and Mina becoming closer because i think it would be better if they just remain permanent platonic acquaintances as they always have been. I thought this would also greatly illustrate how - even though two people may come from the same middle school or heritage or something akin to that - that doesn't automatically mean that they will ultimately get closer with each other into the future and/or eventually form a strong bond.
And, it's funny that you should mention that Mina would be used as leftovers if she were left to be paired with Sero. Because, to me personally, i strongly felt that Kirishima would be forced into a default pairing with Ashido just because he went to the same middle school as Mina, even though they never actually interacted until they first began going to UA and were practically strangers in Middle School. Of course, if they were real middle school close friends or childhood friends or sweethearts or something, i would of had a different opinion. But they weren't...
So, just like how you most validly think Mina and Sero would be used as leftovers, i permanently can not help but also equally validly feel like that KiriMina would be used as a forced, default and also lazy pairing just because Kirishima is a popular male character and because Mina happens to be available - as well as the fact that they went to the same Middle School as each other - making others claim they have great history together - even though they were literal strangers to each other at that point in their lives.
Also, for me personally, i find it unnerving and kind of a turn-off that - even though unknowingly - Mina unintentionally inspired Kirishima to give up on going to UA - and it was only Crimson Riot (not Mina) that inspired Kirishima to not give up ultimately (let's be honest - if Kirishima didn't have those Crimson Riot interview tapes to re-inspire him - it would have been very possible that he would have fallen deeper into his personal despair after observing Mina's impulsive heroic-ness).
Also, a small personal MHA fandom pet peeve of mine is that people keep saying that Mina is a major inspiration who inspired Kirishima to become a hero and don the persona of Red Riot, when that is not true nor at all indicated. The reality is that Mina ever ONLY accidentally and unknowingly inspired Kirishima to give up on ever going to UA >only<.
Also, it was ONLY Crimson Riot (>not< Mina) whom indirectly inspired Kirishima not to give up on UA by influencing Kirishima not to give up and to become a man with no regrets with his inspirational words.
Furthermore, Mina and Kirishima do not officially interact until AFTER the UA entrance exams are finished and AFTER Kirishima changes his hair colour and shape - which was ONLY inspired by Crimson Riot and NOT by Mina Ashido...
So, for me personally, KiriMina is my eternal No.1 NOTP for all eternity (SORRY!!! i just can't stand them together for some reason - it's actually the first heterosexual pairing i have ever full-on hated in my entire life)
However, i strongly hope that you continue to enjoy KiriMina for all eternity if the ship truly brings you happiness :-D
Anonymous9(4): @JustSomeRandomGuy:
There are also other reasons why i greatly dislike KiriMina too, my school experiences are only just small pieces that influenced my disliking of them as a romantic pairing. I actually prefer Mina to end up with someone new from outside of class 1-A whom she will learn to get close with. After all, there's no need for every girl from class 1-A to end up with a boy that is also from class 1-A - cause it seems kinda unrealistic and forced imo for all 6 girls in class 1-A to end up with a boy who is also from class 1-A...
I also crossover ship Mina with Radices from OK K.O. Let's Be Heroes!
I think they would have had an amazing dynamic together XD
Anonymous10: @Anonymous: If Mina ends up with someone from outside class 1-A I hope it's still some other cool character that we know, because I think that if she ended up with some random guy we have never seen before I would feel like she settled for an underwhelming partner, you know?
If she ends up with a character from outside class 1-A, I hope it's Shinso. I just think he's pretty cool and their dynamic could be rather interesting and fun.
Now, if she could end up with another 1-A boy who isn't Kirishima, I would like it to be maybe Tokoyami, since their team up in the second movie was cool and it was rather sweet how he got worried about her when she got hurt and later when she was being carried away in a stretcher she petted Dark Shadow and told them not to worry. Besides, as much as I like Tokoyami x Tsuyu, they haven't really had any casual interactions after they were paired together in the final exam, so Tokoyami is technically available. Mina and Tokoyami only need to interact more, and I think it could work as a ship.
I used to ship Mina with Aoyama at first, but then I found out that apparently he dislikes her a little because she burned his cape during their first training together, so I threw that ship out the window rather quick.
Midoriya x Ashido is also super sweet, but it's never going to happen, so I won't bother treating it as anything more than a crack ship.
But under no circumstances do I want her to end up with Sero. People forcing them together just to not leave any loose ends in the supposed "Bakusquad" made me strongly not like the ship (besides I don't like Sero's hair, it reminds me of a playbomil toy. Mina deserves someone better). There are no interactions between the two, they also don't seem to have that much in common as far as we have been shown, and it's a rather boring pairing.
One non heterosexual pairing for Mina that I like and would be okay with is Mina x Setsuna, since when she was introduced she made me feel like she was the "Mina of class 1-B", so to speak, so I think that they would really hit it off well if they got to interact. But the ship is very unlikely to happen, so I'm not holding my hopes up.
Also, one last thing, I just want to ask: You're not implying that Mina was wrong or is a horrible human being for jumping in to save her friends, right? I'm just asking because whenever someone makes the point that Mina accidentally almost made Kirishima give up on going to UA, they also always phrase it as if she's a terrible person and it was wrong of her to jump in to protect her friends. It just annoys me that it sounds like they are condemning her for doing the right thing just because it made Kirishima, who she didn't even know was there watching, feel sad about himself.
JustSomeRandomGuy: @Anonymous: Also it annoys me that they make it sound as if she's the sole responsible for Kirishima's confidence issues, as if there hadn't previous factors in his life that were already causing that.
P.D. Anonymous 12 is me, I just forgot to log in before leaving that comment 😅.
Anonymous11(4): @JustSomeRandomGuy:
Of course not! Mina is definitely not a bad person and i would never imply that she is (hence is why i made sure to say she 'accidentally' and 'unknowingly' influenced Kirishima to not go to UA)
It's just that i don't think that Kirishima should end up with her ultimately - cause i prefer them to remain as permanently platonic acquaintances as i said previously.
And yes, Mina most definitely wasn't the sole person responsible for Kirishima's confidence issues, but she was undeniably the ultimate catalyst that influenced Kirishima to resolutely decide to quit going to UA before he was suddenly influenced not to by Crimson Riot's inspirational interview.
Anyhow, this specific fact is not necessarily the main reason why i will literally never ship KiriMina - it's only one small reason among many of the reasons why this pairing will always remain my No.1 NOTP in existence...
But again, i strongly hope you keep shipping them if their ship truly brings you happiness :-D
Finally, i really love the alternatives you thought of for Mina's romantic partners. In my opinion, Mina would definitely be better off if she were to end up with someone OTHER than Sero and, to me personally, Kirishima especially.
The Tokoyami x Mina ship sounds super amazing! Even better than Tsuyu x Tokoyami imo...
Also, Shinso x Mina + Mina x Setsuna sounds really amazing too!
Thank you for introducing me to these amazing ship ideas! XD
JustSomeRandomGuy: @Anonymous: If you're interested in the Tokoyami x Mina ship, there's a really good fanfiction (it's the only remarkable one, since there aren't that many fics of their pairing) called "Rock 'N' Roll High School". It's really good, and it increased my liking for the ship a lot. Here's a link to it:
Although I warn you, it's not finished, and it hasn't been updated in a long time, so it's probably abandoned, so if that's a problem for you, then you might not want to read it (but it's still pretty damn good, though). I'm letting you know because I read through the whole thing without knowing it was incomplete and ended up feeling a little empty for a while after.
On a side note, I misread you writing "Shinso x Mina + Mina x Setsuna" as "Shinso x Mina x Setsuna" and thought, "GOD, I WISH THAT WAS A SHIP". I would love that.
Anonymous12: that comment section is on another level hilarious LOL i personally like that pose and i think mina has something interesting but that purple skin always puts me off.
Anonymous17(16): @Anonymous: Firstly, It's not purple, it's pink; and secondly, sucks to be you dude, because that's my favorite thing about her, as well as the color of her eyes. It's all so eye-catching.
But if you guys still ship them, THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE!
