At least Future Gohan was his own man and not an irresponsible schlub letting his potential go to waste despite crying about how he needed to be constantly saved by others. He had his moment with Cell and proceeded to lose all of his progress.
In fact Gohan from the Future Trunks timeline was actually pretty sick although he’s a bit lacking in power.
