Well apart from MTV being a music station back in the day, it also had lifestyle programs, artistic programs and a dedicated animation department.
As for the music part of MTV: each genre had it's own program where it was showcased such as "The soul of MTV", "Yo MTV Raps", "Partyzone", "Headbangers ball", "Alternative nation" and the likes, it used to be a very cool hipster network.
These days it's all "Reality" series, with pumped up guys and collagen filled girls who make out with everybody and the vocabulary of a sailor. And all of it is so obviously scripted.
Old style MTV when it had profanity, it was usually kept at bay with beep and nudity was blurred, these days it's only about how many times the word "fuck" is used and how many tits can be shown on frame.
Which is why I used Daria and Jane as prime examples on how dumb it all became, they are the total opposite of MTV stars like Snookie and J-woww.
ColdFusion: what if I like sex and violence and i don't like alternative lifestyles, but i do want substance and i've never liked MTV or any popular music made in the last 3 decades?
