The most misunderstood here is Hope, this man is back in his 27 age body and had success career in new world in the novel take place after "Lightning Return". Even in the old world of FFXIII, Hope was still a adult who already a head of his government faction and leader of Humanity for like 831 years; so what was the "disturb" thing if he & Lightning got a relationship?
And you wonder why people "obsessed" with Hope & Lightning? Because there a lot of hints about their romance in original Japanese version of Trilogy that didn't get localized and Hope's love was heavily confirmed in the novel get mentioned; even in spin-off game. Also, "We'll be together" get said by both Hope and Lightning in LR and other extra stuff in novel foreshadowed for their reunited in more difference glance like romance; the name of place that Lightning visit in epilogue of LR meaning "palace" in French and whose Eidolon resemble palace aside Alexander of Hope.
