Bee/wasp/hornet stingers are designed to frequently stab the shit out of other insects, the barb ripping apart their internal organs and causing maximum damage, while adding venom to the mix to further kill the victim to death. However due to the thick skin of larger mammals, their barbed stinger gets stuck, pulling out their innards and killing the bee/wasp/hornet in the process [for most species, anyway]. That only happens because they haven't evolved to fuck up mammalian shit, only insect shit.
