ConsciousDonkey: What? Technically, Twilight may be Spike's mother, not Celestia:

Smudge_Proof: @ConsciousDonkey: Faust said that Spike was raised by Celestia (would have been nice to see at least some canon hints of that).
Actually, regarding the things mentioned in the comic, I believe Spike's egg was originally barren, and that's why he resembles Twi.

Anonymous1: @Smudge_Proof: woah woah woah. Wait what?

What comic? Because according to the shows cannon spike was hatched by twi meaning he would be her mother.

What did Celestia take him away from her after she made twilight her apprentenice? If so that is kind of messed up, but would also make sense. She was a still a child herself.

ConsciousDonkey: @Smudge_Proof: Barren? You mean infertile and abandoned by the female dragon who laid it? And he has no wings because he was hatched by a wing-less unicorn?

Yeah, there are far too unknowns about Spike in the show. Personally, I thought Twilight and Spike grew up together in that Celestia's boarding school for gifted unicorns - I mean, when they can take care of unicorn children, they sure as hell could take care of a dragon child, too...

Faptacular: I always took it that after he was hatched he was with Twilight most of the time and she was still young enough to want to play at being mommy but for the most part Cadence was keeping an eye on both of them when Celestia couldn't be there due to her own duties.

Smudge_Proof: @Anonymous: The fan comic linked by CD above.
It was only Faust's statement. I have seen nothing hinting at Celestia's involvement in the actual show.

Smudge_Proof: @ConsciousDonkey: Yes, infertile egg. It was never actually meant to be hatched, but was meant to be an impassable test. At least, according to my headcanon.
