Anonymous1: The one character I'd like to see doing deepthroat, and the one artist who does that the best - the perfect combination, and it ends up as not porn!
Anonymous2: This was a nice design. Speaking of designs, I'm glad there's a new game in the works but at the same time I can't help but feel a bit frustrated over the makeover they've given the new Shantae, I personally feel as if a bit of the old charm is gone. It's like they've traded something distinctive for something... less distinctive.
Anonymous4: @Anon2 & Inuyasha Hey, technically she's half genie, half human! ;) I've seen some reactions bemoaning how she's been made to look more "caucasian", and while I understand what they mean I feel that frankly, that's the silliest thing I've heard in a while. To me it looks like a bit of a misunderstanding/mixup of race and aesthetics. Let me explain.
From early days till today, Shantae's hue tone has been neither black nor white, but brown, and various darker and lighter nuances of it. The initial promo art made her look quite pale, so that was a departure from the pattern seen previously in her character depiction but not only that, it can also be seen as a departure from her assigned group. This begs the question which group she's supposed to represent. She's lighter than black, but darker than white, so she has to belong to some "brown" kind of people. Her attire suggests Arabic origin. This departure from whom she used to represent can then be interpreted as a betrayal to her origins. Betrayal, but for what reason?
Anonymous5(4): Consider this: I've seen critics cynically suggest that Wayforward made her lighter to increase her appeal (and thus sales). If that was admitted to be the case I'd agree that such a move would really be quite cynical of Wayforward. But you mustn't forget, whites(Europeans) & Arabs are subsets of the same group: Caucasians. A compromise legit of criticism may have been made by W.F., but it sure wasn't a racial one, seeing as the group she's supposedly representing is already caucasian wheter its the arab or white kind!
As mentioned earlier, the issue is specific to the Shantae character. Because she's previously appeared to be an exotic Arabic character, complete with dark skin and belly dancing attire and all, she's expected to look the part henceforth too. Remember that Aisha from Monsters World IV is lighter than Shantae, but still sports Arabic clothing and aroma - so it's not that Arabs CAN'T have lighter hue-tone either, it's the sudden change causing concern. These are the reasons why the reaction which is discussed above is and must be purely aesthetic in origin rather than IRL group political.
Anonymous6(4): At last we arrive at my own pet peeve which is similar but different. Complaining about skin-tone only touches briefly on the changes they made, I also find a change in style and attitude, a stylistic break from their former art-direction. This new incarnation of Shantae looks and feels childish and oddly foreign to her older self. I simply do not appreciate what they've done aesthetically with the look of the franchise. This however doesn't mean I won't continue to support them and buy their games.
Excuse me if I dragged on for too long but I really felt the need to explain myself since this is about a franchise I'm really fond of.
