HernsHound: In the cartoon, she wasn't exactly Asian looking either, or Inuit for that matter.
What I found funny was that the same groups that shouted at the top of their lungs about racist casting choices in the Last Airbender movie (which I agree sucked) didn't make a peep when Idris Elba was cast as Heimdall, described in Norse mythology as the most pale of all the Norse gods. (He did rock that part though.)
This pic: She's cute, but total fail on the Katara thing. (Where's her hair loopies?)
HernsHound: @fishmonger: I looked through a few of the episodes where she was in the fire nation in disguise and sure enough, you are right; I could not find one where she had her hair loopies. (I guess I'm just so used to seeing her with them.)
Anonymous7: East coast Native American tribes have greysish blue/green eyes and reddish/brown skin. It would seem that the water tribe posses an Inuit/Eskimo culture but an east coast Native American look.. I know this due to the fact that I'm an east coast Native American.. Katara looks like an average Iroquois and or Cherokee girl.. None of us posses dull brown and or hazel eyes.
Candycock: @fishmonger: This. The water tribe was white, the fire nation indian, and none of the actors portrayed the characters personalities even remotely close. A handful of parts were accurate though, at least the earth benders were asian. The movie might have actually worked out if it was its own thing and not based on an existing series.
