I, for one, welcome our new Alicorn overlord.

Anonymous5: I hate alicorns. Their body proportions and the face are completely unappealing to me. Only the teen Cadence was okay because she still looked almost like a normal pony.

Lapp: @Gomenasai: Realtalk, I'm a fan of the alicorns--but not as alicorns. I think they get the best humanized art of the show, which I generally like a lot more than the pony art. I think you're pretty right about the regular form being too skinny and having odd proportions. Doesn't have the same marshmallowy cushiness as normal ponies.

Well, and you've said don't much care for humanized, so it makes sense. :0

Anonymous6(5): @Lapp: True.
It did work with Chrysalis, as it gave her a more alien and imposing look, which went well with her general design. But with princesses, meh.

Anon9: I think everyone (including me) doesn't like this because it's changing a main character for the sole purpose of selling toys. It seems waaaaay too sudden of a change for it to have come naturally out of the story.

It also has the horrible potential of becoming a major part of the show. I personally think that it limits the possibility of exploring Twi's character. Hopefully those plots aren't replaced with her daily trials as a princess. (which i think sounds incredibly boring and dumb)

moximoore: There's nothing wrong with Alicorn Twilight herself, just the way she becomes an Alicorn AND a Princess...Just for being an Alicorn?...Which doesn't make ANY sense at all. :/

Anonymous13: @Anonymous: I don't put on my bronie hat often, but....

The entire SHOW was for the sole purpose of selling toys. That we got a great story and interesting lovable characters was a happy accident.

And while the last episode WAS rushed and poorly written, the change itself was anything but sudden. They had been broadcasting that this was going to happen ALL season. Not explicitly that she would be an Alicorn (though somehow that's what I assumed would happen) but that she would soon be changing in some way. Too bad the plot device they used as the impetus of the change was so contrived :\ Shit, Krillin was EXPLODED into blood-vapor to cause Goku's change. Not this, "Hey Twilight, figure out the second half of this 'turn-me-into-a-princess' spell I found" -C

Really if you think about it, its always been in the works that she would someday be a Princess. From the series' pilot, the Elements weren't 6 equally important gems--there were 5 equally important gems, and one leader, unironically a Princess' Tiara.

One could also say the story is modeled in part by Sailor Moon, who was herself a Princess.

I, for one, am not at all mad at WHAT happened, but I am a little disappointed that when Lauren Faust completely left the project we got half a season and sloppy writing :\ Still, seems like this had always been an eventuality.
