Strength: In olden times, death by inversion was an excruciating way to die. Our hearts, as humans, are meant to pump blood normally when we're on our feet, or laying down.

It is not, however, designed to pump blood when one is hung upside down. If one is left inverted for a few hours, they start to undergo excruciating pain, followed by cerebral hemorrhaging, stroke, and ultimately death.

Kind of similar to Mary's suffering, eh? The inverted Mary signifies suffering.
