Anonymous6: My guess on the "royals" is that, some time ago, Celestia took a consort. (Getting lonely a few hundred years into Luna's exile, perhaps.) Even if they never had kids, the in-laws would probably make hay of the social connections. Give it a few centuries, social privileges get enshrined into traditions, and there's your royals.
