Anonymous3(2): I was saying you should google more.. what? did you go to the DBZ wiki to get that smashing explanation? just because you rearrange the kanji for lettuce to get turles, doesn't mean that it's the intended pun.. its been common knowledge for years now that turles = turnip
Anonymous4: Not to pick sides or anything - although this is one of the most entertaining arguments I've seen - but generally whatever the creator of the character has to say should be taken as what's actually going on with said character (even if the creator isn't the one who came up with the canonical cast and crew, if we assume movie characters don't count as being technically canon.)
That, and I'd like to ask Anon2/3 to list which website YOU got the turnip translation, because I have the feeling that's a fan's guess based on what his name sounds like. :)
