They don't "Transform" into something compatible, they just link nervous systems and produce mind babbys.

It says they are a all female race but that is by human standards. Asari don't think of themselves as female though they have maternal instincts but as we have seen in game many are very very much manly lol!!! ^_^
Chupacabra555: Yeah, I remember the tough as nails bartender Matriarch(?!?!) on Illium in ME 2 (can't wait for ME 3 to come out now since seeing the new trailer ^_^).
Killamajig: Asari/human children are asari. No genetic material is actually exchanged in asari breeding; they essentially 'randomize' elements of their 'daughters' DNA with information from the 'father' based on the nervous system linkage described above.
They're actually quite alien considering their near-human appearance.
