the latter is common in homestuck fandom because hussie tried to cover his white ass on tumblr back in the day with the claim that all the kids had been purposely written as aracial (bullshit) because there was no way he could have sensitively made his human characters clearly ethnically diverse (double bullshit) and placing the blame on the fans for daring to assume that the kids had ever been white at all.
which was triple bullshit because he'd up until that point stuffed his comic full of implications that at least some of the kids are definitely white, up to and including a frankly unnecessary line about the human babies having pink skin. hussie even replaced a reference to bro strider being a white rapper with gibberish at one point, which became a minor fandom meme until he changed it back.
