Urbane_Guerrilla: You know what? I don't think Tom Fischbach drinks. His alcoholic beverages always appear in strange colors like this one. And "Basitin Ale" spreading a fire instead of putting it out like so much beer would?? Only if B.A. is really a kind of high-proof whiskey and at cask strength. A really unbelievable cask-strength whiskey. Easy to ship, but really the idea is to cut it 2-for-1 with nice designer spring water before drinking! Now if good ol' Evals was drinking the stuff straight, no wonder he was conked out under the lifeboat cover.
I can imagine such Basitin water-of-life getting called Basitin Ale in a tax dodge, encouraging Mister Excise to look the other way -- a win-win as the Crown still gets some revenue to take suspicion off, while the distiller who arranged this fiddle also makes a ton of money. Basitins would distill, as resistant to toxins as they are. They might even glug hot cocoa down a lot more tolerantly than the canid tribes of Keidran, who just might have the canine problem metabolizing the theobromine in chocolate.
