It IS known that Klonoa and some cat-like being were present and maybe Sonic. Tails' place in the Freedom Fighters has been filled by Klonoa. Tails is officially eulogized as a HERO to the end.

A mule is half donkey and half horse, and there are dog/wolf hybrids; it works because they're in the same genus. The difference is that unless they're the same species, the offspring won't be able to reproduce. If you want to make a mule you have to mate a horse with a donkey because mules themselves are always sterile and cannot reproduce.
Either way, foxes and bats aren't in the same genus so it's a moot point. Unless Sega and/or Archie aren't telling us something.
