Anonymous3: She also was supposed to be mute due her training. Some guys consider a girl who never speaks to be perfect. That was something that screwed up continuity to no end as writers forgot that she was mute, or never got the memo that she'd been made not mute. Then there was the exact degree of muteness. Some writers portrayed her as totally incapable of communicating. Others had her able to read lips, and do the practiced deaf-mute vocalizing (even though she's apparently not deaf).
