fishmonger: Am I the only one that finds the naming of Sonic characters extremely lazy? Almost every one of them is named after what species they are. Sonic/Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, Rouge the Bat, Honey/Hershey the Cat, Nicole the Lynx, Cream the Rabbit, etc. Not many of them have actual names, like Amy Rose, Bunnie Rabbot, Sally Acorn... it just seems lazy and stupid. I mean, if they want to name a character "Rouge," why don't they just name her that instead of calling her "Rouge the Bat?"
anomalous: In the context of each game the characters refer to each other by first name, don't they? Sonic calls Knuckles Knuckles, not Knuckles the Echidna. Tails is just Tails. Rouge is Rouge. I think it's just the naming convention that they stuck with since Sonic himself and to distinguish the characters species, which one might not guess immediately from their design.
